Chennai,25 May 2006 :Sical Logistics Ltd today announced a major expansion of its road transportation operations for bulk and containerized cargo.The company said it is adding 80 vehicles,primarily double-axle trucks and tankers,in the immediate term,and 300 vehicles in FY 2006-07.Sical's existing house fleet consists of 320 vehicles.The fleet expansion comes on the back of recent increased business from major customers, namely,Caltex,Tamil Nadu Petrochemicals,Pepsi India,and Shell India.
Sical expects to spend Rs 500 million in FY2006-07 on the acquisition of trucks and other related expenditure relating to road transportation.
For Caltex,Sical moves LPG,in bulk and in cylinders,across the Indian states of Tamil Nadu,Karnataka and Kerala.
For TN Petro,Sical moves linear alkyl benzene (LAB),benzene and heavy normal paraffin across the states of Madhya Pradesh,Uttar Pradesh,Himachal and West Bengal.
For Pepsi India,Sical moves beverages and mineral water across the states of Tamil Nadu,Kerala,Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra.
For Shell India,Sical transports Shell petroleum products across India's southern states. Sical Logistics transports close to 6,000 tonnes of cargo every day.
Ashwin Muthiah,Vice Chairman,Sical Logistics,said that the major expansion of Sical's trucking fleet is a significant indicator of how well Sical's growth strategy for multi-modal logistics is panning out.
“Customers are clearly convinced of Sical's value offering as a single-window provider of logistics across the entire value chain and across multiple channels of transportation,” Mr Muthiah said.
“We are convinced that our recent initiatives towards container train operations,the train terminal at the Nagpur Hub Airport,along with port terminals and port-side and inland container terminals,will enhance our presence in this exciting,fast-growing service opportunity,” Mr Muthiah added.
